JStock is a free and open source stock market software. It provides well organized stock market information, technical indicators and SMS/email alerts. Most importantly, JStock make it easy for you to keep track and manage your stock investment portfolio.

Jstock developed by talented Malaysia programmer, Yan Cheng Cheok. The software development started all the way in 2007 and still actively updated. JStock targeted users are, beginner to intermediate level.

JStock was available in Windows, Linux, Apple (OS X) and Solaris platform.

Below are the main features of JStock

1. Stock Watchlist

Currently, JStock supports 24 world stock markets. The countries are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.

In “Stock Watchlist screen”, you will be presented with delayed stock prices, volumes and many more. JStock is grabbing public data from Yahoo! Finance.

You can also create multiple watchlist to group your stock for example to keep track on high growth stocks and dividend gained stocks

2. Stock Portfolio Management

In “Portfolio Management” screen, you will be able to manage your portfolio, by calculating your current net worth, recording all your buy and sell transaction record. You will be able to keep records on cash deposit and dividend payout too.

You also can create multiple portfolio for example to keep track from different stock broker.

3. Stock Alerts

These feature will allow you to received free SMS or email Stock Alert based on criteria that you choose such as when your stock reach your targetted selling price. SMS alert feature is provided in Google Calendar. Make sure you configure it correctly before using it.

JStock can also pop up a small notification window in your system tray about your indicator.

4. Technical Indicators

JStock comes with pre-built technical indicators. It will help you to determine the right time to buy or sell. Currently, Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD), Relative Strength Index (RSI), Money Flow Index (MFI) and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) indicators are available.

5. Charting

You will be able to view charts on Investment Flow Summary, Dividend Summary, Portfolio Summary, History Stock Info and History Index Info. History Stock Info and History Index Info data are available for the past 10 years.

6. Cloud Storage

With cloud storage feature, you will be able access your personal JStock data anytime, anywhere. You may upload entire personal JStock data into cloud at home, and open up personal JStock data from cloud at office. Don’t worry about your privacy, JStock won’t share your data with anyone else. View their privacy information.

7. Market Chit-Chat

This is a chatting feature where you can exchange latest stock market tips with other investors.

In conclusion, I feel that JStock is a great piece of software for stock market investors. The features that I like the most is Portfolio Management. Best of all, JStock is completely free of charge!
