2011 Fortune Global 500, World’s Largest Companies

The Fortune Global 500 is an annual ranking of the top 500 corporations or companies worldwide as measured by revenue. The list is compiled and published annually by Fortune magazine.

The list was first publish in 1989 but only cover US industrial companies. In 1995, the list changed to include all companies & sectors.

The latest 2011 ranking was published on 25th July 2011. Wal-Mart Stores managed to retain their top spot. There is only one (1) Malaysian company managed to be in the list of 2011 Fortune Global, namely Petronas at 86th position.

ECMLibra Investment Research continue to be Overweight on the sector as news flow continue to be strong. But ECMLibra see that bigger caps like MMHE and even SapuraCrest hitting peak cycle valuations.

As such, ECMLibra pay more attention to small cap laggards like Wah Seong, Alam Maritim and even Perdana Petroleum. The only big cap ECMLibra favour now is Petronas Gas due to the upside potential from the new re-gasification terminal.

Petronas Revenue, Profit & Assets Size Since Year 2000

Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) was incorporated on 17 August 1974 as the national oil company of Malaysia to own and control of the petroleum resources in the country. It has grown into a fully integrated oil and gas corporation. In 2010, Petronas ranked 107 in the FORTUNE Global 500 largest corporations in the world.

Petronas revenue, profit and assets grows tremendously for the past 10 years. Petronas also pays a substantial amount of dividend to the government. Starting from 2013 onwards, they will pay 30 percent of net profit to government as dividend .

2011 Forbes Global 2000 & Ranking for Malaysian Companies

The Forbes Global 2000 is an annual ranking of the top 2000 public companies in the world features in Forbes magazine. The ranking is based on four criteria namely  Sales, Profit, Assets and Market value.

The ranking was first published in 2003 and it is a useful indicator for leading public companies in the world.

For 2011 ranking, there are 20 Malaysian companies listed which represent 1 percent of companies in the list.

The table below is top 20 of 2011 Forbes Global 2000 and all the position of Malaysian companies in the list.

ECMLibra Oil & Gas Sector Stock Picks, April 2011

ECMLibra Investment Research continue to be Overweight on the sector as news flow continues to be heavy and very positive. There would be many more contracts to come from marginal fields, development projects (like Tapis), and deepwater developments.

Besides that, Petronas’s intention to increase drilling activity will also enhance the need for support vessels and drilling services and equipment.

On notable major shareholding changes, Employees Provident Fund was seen adding shares across the board, particularly in Petronas Chemicals, SapuraCrest, Wah Seong and KNM.
