Prohibited Trading Activities in Bursa Malaysia

Bursa Malaysia is govern by The Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (“CMSA“). CMSA prescribes the laws among others, to regulate and to provide for matters relating to trading activities in the capital markets.

The following are four (4) types of trading activities that are prohibited in Bursa Malaysia as stipulated in CSMA.

1. Section 98 of CMSA – Short Selling

Short selling is the action of a person selling shares, which he does not own at the time of selling. Essentially, the law provides that a person shall not sell securities to a purchaser unless, at the time when he sells them:-

ASB & ASN Dividend for 2010 will be Announced Soon


ASNB

Based on information obtained from Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB) webpage, ASNB will suspended all Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) & Amanah Saham Nasional (ASN) transaction soon to facilitate the issuance and computation of ASB & ASN Dividend for year 2010.

ASB transaction will be suspended from 20th December 2010 to 2nd January 2011 while ASN transaction will be suspended from 27th December 2010 to 2nd January 2011. Both ASB & ASN have similar financial year of 31st December.

Based on history, ASB dividend will be declared between 14th to 19th December while ASN dividend will be declared around 23rd to 24th December.

American Express “15% Cash Back” Campaign

In conjunction with its 50th anniversary, Maybank as a licence holders of AMEX cards in Malaysia, is having a campaign where AMXE card holders will enjoy 15% cash back at all American Express Card accepting merchants in the selected malls. However, supermarkets/hypermarkets, hotels & their F&B outlets located in selected malls are excluded.

This promotion is similar 15% cash back campaign by American Express last year. The promotion is valid until 28 February 2011. All American Express Cards (Credit & Charge) issued by Maybank and Maybank Islamic are eligible to enjoy this promotion. However American Express Corporate Cards are not eligible.

Top 300 World’s Largest Pension Funds, 2010

The following data are as of early 2010. Two (2) Malaysia pension funds namely Employees Provident Funds (EPF) and Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) listed in top 300 world’s largest pension funds.

In 2010, EPF is at number 19 from the top 300 pension funds drop from number 18 in 2008.  However, the total assets grow to USD109.0 billion from USD98.8 billion in the same period.

KWAP, Malaysian second largest pension funds is at number 148 in 2010 with USD19.1 billion assets up from position 160 with USD16.0 billion assets in 2009.

Gold Prices Expected to Raise Further

Analysts predicted that gold prices is expected to raise further at least for the next one year before the gains are capped, given the economic uncertainties in advanced nations and the volatility of the US dollar.
