The deposit insurance system in Malaysia was launched in September 2005 and is managed by Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM). PIDM is a Government agency established under the Akta Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia 2005.

Deposit insurance is a system that protects depositors against the loss of their insured deposits placed with banks in the unlikely event of a bank failure. It is established by the Government to enhance the consumer protection framework and promote financial system stability. It is not related to or managed by general or life insurance companies. Generally, it is a Government sponsored scheme, although in certain countries it is sponsored by the banks.

SWIFT code is a standard format of Bank Identifier Codes approved by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is the unique identification code of a particular bank. These codes are used when transferring money between banks, particularly for international wire transfers, and also for the exchange of other messages between banks. The SWIFT code is 8 or 11 characters.

If you expected to received money via wire transfer from overseas, then you need this code. For Malaysian Banks, only 8 characters swift code is required. In case the issuing banks requires 11 characters then just add “XXX” at the end of swift code shown below. For example for Al Rajhi Bank change from RJHIMYKL to RJHIMYKLXXX.

Hong Leong bank announce Pay+ which allows HL Online Personal customers to transfer funds from HLB Current or Savings account to other participating bank’s current or savings account.

Funds transferred are available in beneficiary’s account immediately upon a successful transfer. This is the first instant interbank transfer in Malaysia.

Upon entering the beneficiary account number and clicking on the submit button, beneficiary account name will be displayed for confirmation prior to confirming the transaction.
