20% Cash Back on Weekend Groceries with AmBank Credit Card

AmBank is having a new promotion where their credit card holders will enjoy 20% cash rebate on groceries spending during the weekend. The promotion is running from 1st May 2010 to 31st December 2010.

The promotion open to Priciple Credit Card holder with the exception of PrePaid MasterCard and card holders whose card accounts have been suspended, cancelled or terminated.

To participate, you have to register your AmBank credit card via SMS. To register, send SMS through your mobile number by typing “cashback {space} 16-digits card no” to 36663. This is one time registration and you will be charged 30 cents.

Latest BLR & BFR Rate, May 2010

Following Bank Negara decision to raise Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) by 25 basis points to 2.5% last week, some banks in Malaysia start to revise up their Base Lending Rate (BLR) and Base Financing Rate (BFR).

This is the second time in 2010 that Malaysian have to bear the burden of higher interest rate. The first increase was implemented in March 2010.

Maybank, CIMB Bank, Public Bank, RHB Bank and Bank Islam have increased their BLR & BFR by 25 basis point to 6.05% from 5.80% previously. Other bank will follow suit.

ASW2020 Stock Market Portfolio & Unitholder Distributions for 2009

For financial end 2009, ASW 2020 pays 6.3 sen dividend to the unitholders and it is the lowest since the fund was launched in 1997. In the same period, a total of more than 872,599  peoples subscribe with ASW 2020 with total fund size of more than RM11 billion. It means that only left less than 3 billion unit to be subscribed.

In summary, ASW 2020  invest 59.7% of the total funds size in Malaysia Stock Market. The remaining is in cash or other income instrument.

Online EPF Withdrawal System for Personal Investing

Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM) unveil a new system called Elektronik-Pilihan Pelaburan Ahli (E-PPA). With the new system EPF members’ could now submit their applications online for withdrawing part of their EPF saving to invest in unit trust funds.

The E-PPA system was jointly developed by FIMM and the EPF and it aim to reduce the application processing time to two days from between 15 to 20 days under the manual system.

Sukuk 1Malaysia 2010 with 5% Return per Year

After receiving a good response from general public on Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat (SSR) launched last year, Government will be issuing a new RM3bil worth of Sukuk 1Malaysia 2010.

Bank negara was appointed on behalf of The Ministry of Finance to issue the Sukuk. The sukuk, which will be scripless and based on Shariah principles.

It has a 3-year tenure and offers a return of 5% per annum. Profit payments will be made on a quarterly basis through the sukukholders’ accounts with their agent banks.

If you are interested to subsrcribe, you may apply during the subscription period starting from 20th May to 9th June 2010. You better make a quick decision as the previous Sukuk Simpanan Rakyat (SSR) were fully subscribed within nine days.
